How do I search through newspapers or magazines tie-ins on Books & Media?

To find out what books have featured in a particular newspaper or magazine go to the search box on the top right of the screen and enter the name of the newspaper or magazine. Then go to the drop down box where it says All Categories and select ‘Press’ then click on the red search icon.

How do I navigate through my tie-in search results?

Use the arrow buttons at the top of the page to browse: a click on the double arrow will take you to the end or beginning of all the pages for that search while the single arrow will move you through the results a page at a time.

Can I filter my results by publication?

Yes, by simply going to the Press Channels box on the right of the results. Filters can be applied to refine each search by clicking on the desired publication / Newspaper or magazine. Any filter applied is retained as you click through the pages of the search results. You can remove the filter by clicking on “Clear Active Filters”.

Can I filter my results by type of article?

In the Press type box, you can filter by the type of article, such as Review, Feature, Column or Interview. What types of article are displayed is context sensitive. Any filter applied is retained as you click through the pages of the search results. You can remove the filter by clicking on “Clear Active Filters”.

How do I search the Press for publishers?

To find out what publishers have featured in a particular newspaper or magazine go to the search box on the top right of the screen and enter the name of the newspaper or magazine. Then go to the drop down box where it says All Categories and select ‘Press’ then click on the red search icon.

How do I search the Press for authors?

To search for authors featured in the Press type the name of the author in the search box on the top right of the screen. In the centre drop down select “Press” and in the Search Field drop down select “Author”. Click the red search icon.

How are the results displayed?

The first page of results for any search lists the fifteen most recent reviews. In the first line of each result are details: Book Title, Author, Publisher and ISBN. The second line lists category, the newspaper or magazine and the date it appeared. Underneath you’ll find the star rating which gives the critic’s opinion of the work featured.

Are there other ways to search, such as ISBN and Title?

You can search for references to publications by ISBN and Title in the same manner as you would for Authors. Remember to use the Search Field drop down on the top right of the screen.

Can I search the Press tie-in books by category?

Searches can be carried out by Feature, Interview, Review, Column, Discussion, Obituary or News. Type in the search box the category you wish to search before the name of the newspaper or magazine in which you are interested, then select ‘Press’ in the drop down menu.

How do I search the Press by date?

For articles that appeared on a specific date type in the day and then the month, each as two digits, then the year as four digits. If you wish to narrow the search to a specific newspaper or magazine, place its name after the date.

Can I get more information on any book?

Once you have the search results that you require you can click on any listed item to find out more information. Tabs offer Extended Data, Bibliographic information and a full listing of the book as featured in the media.

Can I read the reviews that are listed?

Where there is a review extract, there is also a link on the media tab to “read full review” you can go to the newspaper’s website in a new window to read for yourself what the critic had to say.

How do I search through TV and Radio media tie-in Listings?

To find out what books are referenced on a TV channel, type the name of the channel you wish to search in the search box on the top right of the screen. Now select Television from the drop down menu, then click on the red search icon. Results are listed with the furthest ahead at the top of the page.

Can I search for Authors and Titles featured on TV or Radio?

Authors or Titles can be searched for by entering the author’s name or the title of the book in the search box and selecting Television in the categories box and then selecting the appropriate field from the Search Field drop down.

How can I find the headlines news for books on TV, Film and Radio?

The tabs underneath the Books and Media banner display the headline news for Books featured on TV, Radio and Movie tie-ins.

How can I find out timings of TV programmes linked to books?

Click the TV tab under the Books and Media banner. Across the top of the page are the days of the week. These act as filters to narrow your search by time. You will see a list of books that relate to TV programmes for each day with transmission times.

Can I search by TV Channel or type of programme?

Yes, this is part of the unique service on www.booksandmedia.co.uk. To the right, the TV Channels panel allows you to filter the channel and, below that, the TV Categories panel allows you to filter by category. These can be combined and deselected.

What about searching for tie-in books linked to radio?

Searches for Radio work in exactly the same way as for TV.
How do I know what books are to become movie tie-ins?

Click on the Movies tab under the Books and Media Header.

The Movies homepage presents ‘Film tie-in of the week’, plus new film tie-ins and the option to view all forthcoming movie tie-ins by clicking on “See complete tie in list” on the top right of the features panel. These are listed by planned release date.

You can also use the search box combined with the Movies and Search Field drop-down. Here you can enter a book title, a movie title, or an author.

What does ‘tie-in’ mean?

A tie-in could be a book that is to be made into a film or a book related in some way to a movie title.

How do I find out what books are talked about on internet social networking sites?

Access the Internet page by clicking on the Internet link beneath the Books and Media header.

What do the different Internet sections represent?

“Most Talked About New Books” presents a pie-chart breakdown of what’s hot in the blogs. It lists the top three, and goes on to present a commentary and a selection of opinions circulating the Internet.

“Authors In The News” focuses on the personalities that write the books rather than titles. To get a closer look at the details graphically you can click on the pie chart to magnify the facts and figures.

Further down the page are the “Most Discussed Bestsellers” and “Special Features” sections. The latter will change according to what events, prizes and news are current at the time, for example the critics’ Christmas recommendation or the Booker Prize winner or top tips for the year.

When is Books and Media updated?

Books and Media is continually updated but the most important times to visit the site are after the weekend reviews have appeared and midweek when the latest TV and radio listings are available.
